Reverend Chris – Lynn Whitley

Chris-Lynn Whitley is the third child of the late Reverend Dr. George Garland and Elsie Locke Latham, Sr. of Zebulon, N.C. She is married of 44 years to Reverend Dr. Larry Wayne Whitley former Moderator of the Mecklenburg General Baptist Association, and is presently Pastor of the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Matthews, N.C. They have two daughters, Kashonda Cason and Kristy Whitley-Spruill, two son-in-laws, Reverend Tim Cason, Ronald Spruill, five granddaughters, Brianna, Whitlei, Indya, Infinity and Ashlynn and one grandson, Mylan.

Reverend Chris –Lynn Whitley was educated in the Wake County School System. She attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro and Basic Training at the N.C. Highway Patrol Basic School for the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles as a Driver’s License Examiner. Reverend Whitley was stationed in Monroe, N.C. for seven years and later transferred to North Carolina’s Crime Control and Public Safety where she served as Victim and Justice Community Service Coordinator. Having served for 24 years, she retired in August 2006 from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

First Lady Whitley was called by God to preach the gospel and she answered her call on January 24, 2006 at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She was ordained in 2008 by the Mecklenburg General Baptist Association. On May 7, 2010 she completed the Certificate Program in Atlanta Georgia at the Interdenominational Theological School in Theology.

At Mount Moriah she serves as Associate Minister and is also over the Women’s Ministry (“Women on the Front Line”). She sings with the Women’s Choir, and has worked with the Youth Choir for many years. She is Co-Facilitator, along with Pastor Whitley, of the Marriage Retreat Ministry; Sunday School Teacher, and has worked with the Minister’s Wives Auxiliary of the MGBA, Women Auxiliary of the MGBA. She also served as an Ambassador for the HIV/AIDS Trinity Project. Rev. Chris Whitley is currently the Assistant Director & After School Teacher for the Mt. Moriah Child Development Center, Matthews.

After all is said and done, the most important thing to know about Reverend Whitley is that she Loves the Lord and will let nothing separate her from the Love of God.
